“Fundamentals of Drug Designing”

:: *Greetings from Bioinformatics Centre, University of Kashmir*:: *We will be having First Come First Serve basis for registration*:: *Participants are requested to bring their laptops with them on the day of Workshop*
About Workshop
Bioinformatics has accelerated knowledge dissemination and data interpretation through its novel high-throughput technologies, online tools/web servers, databases, algorithms, computational analysis, etc. It plays an important role in drug designing and discovery from the data of functional genomics and proteomics which has certainly led to the development of personalized medicine. Bioinformatics based drug designing uses a variety of computational methods to identify novel compounds, design compounds for selectivity, efficacy and safety, and develop compounds into clinical trial candidates. These methods fall into different categories – structure-based drug design, ligand-based drug design, de-novo design and homology modeling – depending on how much information is available about drug targets and potential drug compounds. Despite its numerous applications, the practical utility and knowledge among researchers and students is still meager, emphasizing the need for basic training in this emerging field of Biology. Therefore, this workshop is aimed to provide an in-depth exposure to participants on different computational methods involved in the drug designing process. The workshop shall provide hands-on training to the students, scholars, scientists and academicians related to the field of Bioinformatics. The sessions will be conducted by the experts in the field.
About Bioinformatics Centre
The Bioinformatics Centre was established in the year 2000 with financial assistance from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India, New Delhi. It has been established to popularize the importance of information technology for pursuing advanced research in modern biology and biotechnology. The Centre provides data analysis facility to the researchers and offers basic courses on Computer Applications in Biology to the post-graduate students at different semesters. The module includes applications of different bioinformatics tools in the major thrust areas of molecular biology including Bioinformatics database search engines and resources: NCBI, EMBOSS and ExPASY; literature survey using mainly PubMed and OMIM; bioinformatics databases like EMBL, GenBank, DDBJ, SwissProt, TrEMBL, PIR, NDB, MMDB, PDB, SCOP and CATH. Researchers as well as post-graduate students have been provided with the access to BIO-CLUSTER GRID including BLAST, FASTA, CLUSTALW, FINCH TV, CHROMAS PRO and various other molecular modeling tools like I-TASSER.
